Report on Propagation Workshop

at Quinta da Figueirinha, Silves

We held a popular practical ‘planty ‘ day at Quinta da Figueirinha near Silves on the 16th October where participants were able to get hands-on with exchanging plants and seeds and learning about grafting.  This was our special day to brush up propagation techniques and share some of own experiences, good or bad !
Some seed and plant materials were enthusiastically welcomed and distributed. These included seed of the wild Clematis flammula and seed and cuttings of the rarely available Caper plant.  Plants and bulbs were available to buy including natives Sternbergia lutea and Scilla pervuiana.

As we will not be having our own plant stall at the Garden Fair in November, this was  a special day dedicated to our own plants, seeds and cuttings together with a workshop on Propagation.  The aim of the day was to encourage you to enjoy growing your own plants, or plants that you want for your garden and cannot find locally to buy.

The day started with an introduction and welcome from Quinta owner Dr Gerhard Zabel. We had a tour of the exotic fruit garden and a look at the proposed sites for MGAP demonstration gardens, dry gardening and also native plant garden.
